Axholme Herald 19th November 2004 Orchestra hoping to call full house The Isle of Axholme Orchestra, now in its fifth season since its inauguration in September 2000, visits John Leggott College, Scunthorpe on Thursday November 25th at 7.00pm with yet another exciting programme. The orchestra will perform Haydn's Trumpet Concerto in E flat with distinguished soloist David Tonkin, a great favourite with both the orchestra and its audiences alike. David was their very first soloist in March 2001 and is making a welcome return. Verdi's incredibly tuneful overture to his opera Nabucco and Dvorak's ever-popular Symphony No.9 (From the New World) complete a very enjoyable programme. Conductor Andrew Jakob says, "We are hoping to fill the hall at John Leggott College for this concert. The orchestra is playing really well and the Dvorak symphony sounds great in rehearsals. This orchestra always rises to these major works and its enthusiasm to meet the challenging rhythmic and expressive demands of the music gives that extra excitement for the listeners. We are very grateful for their support both in Scunthorpe and in our orchestral home, Epworth," said Mr Jakob. Don't miss this opportunity to hear our local orchestra of North Lincolnshire. The concert starts at 7.00pm and will finish by 9.00pm. Tickets are available on the door £8/ £5 concessions and in advance from South Axholme Community School, phone (01427) 872121. |
